Do you know what a regular tetrahedral grater is capable of? After many years, I discovered new culinary opportunities. I hasten to share the information that I learned from a neighbor.
4 sides are equally useful and necessary?
A little background. Imagine: a village, a wedding ... As usual, they celebrate it with the whole crowd. And the hosts need help with cooking. They also called me. The mother of the groom was in charge of the kitchen and part-time is our neighbor.
She instructed me to rub foods: potatoes, carrots, cabbage, eggs, apples, lemon zest. And also it was necessary to turn into a powder nutmeg, parmesan, cinnamon. Of the tools - one grater alone. True, with 4 sides.
“And where is the knife, and where is the combine and the mill for spices?” - involuntarily escaped from me. And then the neighbor spoke in detail and showed why 4 sides of the grater are needed.
What is each side for?
I always had tetrahedral graters in the kitchen. But in active use there was only one side - with holes resembling large raindrops. Using it was somehow more convenient. With it, I rubbed everything from vegetables to eggs.
Side No. 1 - with large teardrop-shaped holes
This is exactly the side "for all occasions." And grate carrots, and potatoes, and eggs will help chop. She turns products into shavings in an instant. But there is one “but.” The output is quite large pieces, which are not good in all dishes.
It is best to use this side of the grater:
- for chopping vegetables into salads;
- for eggs;
- for chocolate;
- for onion puree (for example, cutlets or marinade).
And also it is convenient to rub butter on it to quickly soften it.
Side No. 2 - with small teardrop-shaped holes
It differs from the previous side in the smaller diameter of the holes. Accordingly, the pieces of products at the output are smaller. Despite the fact that the grinding rate drops significantly, sometimes you can not do without such a grater.
How can I use this side of the grater:
- grate products for decoration: cheese, chocolate, boiled egg yolks and vegetables;
- grate potatoes for cooking potato pancakes, zucchini for fritters;
- prepare vegetable or fruit baby puree.
I use it wherever small chips are needed. Does your child not like carrots in soup? Rub it on this side of the grater - and he will not see it and will not feel it.
Side number 3 - with protruding "eyes"
The most mysterious "prickly" side of the grater. For a long time she served me faithfully for rubbing garlic. But in fact, it is intended for completely different products.
Namely:
- for grinding dry products into dust: hard cheeses, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, crackers:
- to remove the zest from citrus.
And I rub ginger on it. It turns out a homogeneous slurry without hard fibers. By adding it to tea, you can not wait until the drink is infused.
I heard many complain that this side of the grater is very difficult to wash. I’ll tell you a little secret: you need to take an old toothbrush, pour a little soda or detergent for dishes and rub the holes. The grater is easy to clean.
Side No. 4 - with oblong holes
Of all four sides, this is the most ignored. And completely in vain. With its help, you can cook a lot of delicious vegetable dishes. For example, ratatouille.
She will help:
- Gently chop carrots, zucchini and aubergine for casseroles.
- Chop potatoes for cooking chips.
- Turn the onion into beautiful onion rings.
- Chop the cabbage of perfect thickness.
True, at first I had difficulties with shredding cabbage, and at first nothing worked. But the neighbor prompted the correct technique. First you need to cut a head of cabbage into pieces. Take one of the pieces in your hand and rub it on a grater. It leaves a thin straw of the same size, which is just perfect for salads, borscht and stew.
In order not to accidentally injure my fingers while rubbing hard raw vegetables, I use a special holder for the grater. Very handy thing, I'll tell you.
Grater is my indispensable assistant in the kitchen. Grinding products on it comes out faster than with a knife, mill and even a food processor. In the latter, you need to change the nozzle, and then wash the mountain of parts, while the grater is enough to rinse with water. For me personally, the appointment of the four sides of the grater was a discovery and allowed me to cook more dishes with convenience. Try it and you!
